METEOROLOGIST JEFF HABY
A shower is a precipitation event that is brief. It also has a quick beginning and quick ending. The term shower
will often be combined with other weather words to produce: snow shower, rain shower and thundershower. The
term thundershower interestingly is often frowned upon by meteorologists since all thundershowers are
thunderstorms. There is no clear distinction between what is a shower and what is not a shower since the
term brief can have various interpretations. If precipitation is expected to be on and off (especially
snow or rain without thunder) the term shower will often be used.
