NO WEATHER'S ILL IF THE WIND BE STILL

METEOROLOGIST JEFF HABY

WEATHER FOLKLORE: "No weather's ill if the wind be still"

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION: The weather tends to be stormy near frontal boundaries. Wind tend to be stronger near these frontal boundaries.

When the wind is still, that tends to be toward the center of high pressure or the center of an air mass. Precipitation tends to be not as widespread in these areas.

PITFALLS: Air mass warm season thunderstorms often develop in a low wind environment. Precipitation from an upper level disturbance can override an airmass causing ill weather.
